In this post, we will cover how to navigate changes in your practice, including examining your view of devotion and trying new things. Cultivating an adaptive spiritual practice needs to take place in the context of your life. This means that you have to leave space for the unexpected and acknowledge your need for rest.
I’ve been revisiting my old blog posts from 2020, and wow, some of them are hitting just as hard five years later. I feel like we’ve descended back into a time of chaos and uncertainty, where we are inundated with dozens of awful headlines each day. The overwhelm is real, and I feel like everyone I know is surviving, not thriving.
I'm excited to announce the virtual Modern Temple of Aphrodite community, hosted on Discord! Over the years, I have received countless emails from spiritual seekers expressing the desire for community with other people who work with Aphrodite. This inspired me to create an online temple community where people from a variety of spiritual paths and experience levels can come together. It is my hope that together we will cultivate a supportive and vibrant community of devotees where we can share our experiences, ask questions and learn from each other, and bask in the joy that is Aphrodite.
I hope you have enjoyed this series on a Ritual Template for your spiritual practice! Since the posts have been spread out across a span of time and aren’t necessarily one after the other, I thought it might be helpful to compile them into one comprehensive guide.
There’s one more crucial step that needs to happen to integrate the ritual you just performed with the rest of your life, and that’s: Follow-Through. The essence of Follow-Through is to integrate and enact - We take the “spiritual” ritual experience and apply it to our “mundane” life (all while knowing there is no true distinction between these two categories).
I use the phrase “Returning to the Here and Now” to encompass a few different ideas, but most fall under the large umbrella of Grounding. Why specifically do we want to ground after a ritual? Depending on what your ritual purpose was, you may feel fairly grounded by the end or you could be soaring up in the clouds or anywhere in between! Grounding connects you back to the Earth, to yourself, and back to this time and place.
As I mentioned in my last post of Priestess in a Pandemic, Isis came into my life this past year. Her arrival was unexpected but welcome. She showed up when there was need, though I wouldn’t have been able to articulate it then. Our relationship has been transformational and healing.
Preparation is the first element in my ritual template. This can include cleansing and purification, getting together your tools and altar, engaging your senses, and creating a ritual outline.
