Prayers to Aphrodite: To Stand For Love

I know I haven’t been posting as much recently. Part Three of the Dealing with Spiritual Doubt as a Pagan series is still coming, I promise! (Edit: It is now here!) Pandemic life seems to get more difficult the longer this drags on. Everyday tasks take more energy than they used to. I’ve had some personal stuff going on and I’ve also been working on some other priestess projects during this time.

If you live in the US, you know two things: 1) The pandemic isn’t getting any better, and 2) The 2020 election (and the drama that comes with it) is well underway.

In general, I do not like politics, and I will not write much about it, save for this:

Vote. Please vote.

The chaos and hatred cannot continue. We must stand together. And we must stand for love.

A Prayer to Aphrodite: To Stand For Love

O Blessed Aphrodite,
I stand with you.
And I stand for Love.

I stand for compassion and respect.
I stand for helping those in need.
I stand for those who cannot stand for themselves.

I find strength in my own voice
And in raising up the voices of others.
I will shout the truth of Love from the rooftops
So that all may hear.

I stand against prejudice.
I stand against racism.
I stand against bigotry and hate.
I stand against those who believe that anyone is a “lesser” person.

For mine is a fierce love,
Born in the fires of the heart,
Forged in the connection of all humanity.

For we are more alike than we are different.
And injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

I stand for courage in the face of adversity.
I stand for the strength required to fight another day.
For we cannot give up.

We get to choose what we stand for.
We get to choose our actions and our words.
We get to choose our values and beliefs.
We get to choose how we treat others.
And I choose Love.

I choose the Love that flames brilliantly in the darkness.
I choose the Love that powers change.
For you can be both a lover and a fighter
And you, Glorious Aphrodite,
Are both.

Show me how to embody
Your ferocity and compassion.
Show me how to represent
Your tenderness and strength.
Show me how to channel your love,
And be a catalyst for change.

O Radiant Goddess,
May I always shine your light in the world.

For we are more alike than we are different – Adapted from Human Family by Maya Angelou – “We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike.”
